It's that time of year again and with the sun finally shining we are hoping to ramp up some friendly competition between club members with the annual summer series of 'Wacky Wednesdays'. This series of races is for everybody in the club. It will be done in such a way that it will be competitive for everyone who participates in a fun and friendly environment.  This race series is a way for club members to get out and meet each other and add some missing edge to training sessions in preparation for up-coming events or just to dust off some cobwebs.

We are a large club but we seem to be missing cohesion as a group. It is time to start rubbing shoulders with your fellow club members and getting to know one another. Threshold is a very good space to meet people in as it’s full of endorphins. So don’t think about it just do it, pre-registration is essential. See you all in Rossespoint.

Wacky Wednesday Members Only Tri League. To assist with registration (Race splitter) and to make a small donation to charity and toward an end of league BBQ and night out we will be charging through Paypal, but only if numbers suffice . The entry will be €10 per person for the whole series and you can only enter and register online. These are ideal events for new & old club members to prepare for the season ahead. The league will be handicapped so everyone can compete and it is the perfect time for some quality brick workouts and transition practice. For insurance purposes you have to be a paid up member of Tri Ireland and Sligo Tri club. Every registered athlete must volunteer for marshalling duty. The club coaches will take responsibility for organising each race and will be on hand for advice and tips for all athlete's. We will be meeting at 6:30 pm with a 7pm start time. Marshalls will be assigned to each race along with a coach once registration is complete. If you fail to marshal on your allotted night or don’t arrange cover, you will not be racing the following week.

The handicap system will be done on the night and will probably consist of three start times with the stronger athletes going last. The handicap will be designed to have all participants finishing within a few minutes of each other.

July 1st Union Trail Duathlon: A run in and around the confines of Union Wood followed by a bike route encompassing much of the club sprint course and ending with some more tasty trails in union wood.

July 8th Half Moon Super Sprint Aquathon: Mixed teams of two athletes selected by coaches ensuring level playing field for all. Each athlete must take their turn performing a set swim followed by a loop of hazelwood. The format is simple, once the first athlete returns from the swim the second athlete begins swimming. Athlete number one completes the run loop and athlete number two can only start running when their partner returns. The total time for both athletes is their overall finishing time.

July 15th Murragh Dromahair Time Trial: Straightforward challenging but very manageable 5km time trial up hill. Plan to meet at the i.t car park and cycle out from there as warm-up. Time starts from the bottom of the hill and finishes on top. Participants can include it as part of a longer spin and use the 5km as a threshold interval session and record time to use as a guide to your own training. The cycle back to town will act as a nice cool down. The total loop out and back including the 5km effort is roughly 35km.

July 22nd Super Sprint Final Point2Point: The culmination of all the hard work will be rewarded with a tasty BBQ and some cold refreshments but only after completing a mixed team super sprint encompassing all three disciplines of triathlon. Beginning with a very short swim of  roughly 300mt, followed by a 10k bike loop out and back along the promenade in Rosses Point and an even shorter run tackling road and beach athletes will experience what is fast becoming a huge success on the triathlon world scene. The athletes will start at the far buoy along the second beach swimming back to the first and up the slip transitioning in the car-park. Each athlete must complete the entire swim/bike/run section before tagging their teammate. This will be done on the beach where the swim began and athlete two completes the entire course with the total time taken as their overall time.
