Taken from a preview to last year's sprint race -here are a few of the Sligo Tri gang...

Brian Reilly

Rosses Point local Brian Reilly is set to take part in his first ever Rosses Point Tri. Brian is really enjoying the variety that the sport of triathlon gives him. He says regarding the upcoming Tri "My goal for the Rosses Point Tri is to firstly and most importantly beat fellow local Rosses Point man Tom Ford and a secondary goal would be to beat my time set at the Mullaghmore Triathlon!!!! To anyone who is sitting on the fence considering getting involved in Triathlon, just do it. You won't regret it and I'm fairly certain you will actually enjoy it."

Stewart McKenna

Ballincar Local Stewart McKenna completed his first triathlon at Rosses Point in 2009. Stewart has since gone on to complete IRONMAN Nice in just over 11 hours. This year he travels to Frankfurt to compete in his second IRONMAN competition and he hopes to complete it in less than 11 hours. Without a doubt, Stewart loves to compete locally and he says "Triathlon is a great sport for people with no necessary talent that want to get fit and enjoy competition; all you need is time and commitment, the rest will come. Long-term I see Triathlon as something I will do until I'm 80yrs old, it's fun, social, healthy, you can bring the training to any part of the country you find yourself in, and it's way easier on the body than football/soccer/rugby, which most of my friends are starting to retire from already! I'd also like to beat Neil Walton one day!

Robert Fitzpatrick

Adopted Rosses Point local, Robert is competing in his first ever Triathlon on July 31st. Robert's reasons for competing are "MID LIFE CRISIS. Not afraid to admit it, in the mid 40s, going grey and a belly of sumo wrestler, something needs to be done. Last year, I did MC at the event and it really had a huge impression on me, seeing all peoples, shapes and sizes achieve their goal of completing the event or improving a previous time and I felt that I would like to be part of the event the following year. I'm really looking forward to the day and personally I want to complete this years sprint event in less than 2 hours and if things go right 1.45."

Michelle Henry

This is Michelle's first year to complete in the sport of triathlon and she is looking forward to the local event.

Sheila Ryan

Shiela is a newcomer to the sport and she completed the Try a Triathlon last October and completed her first sprint distance triathlon at Mullaghmore in June where she placed an impressive 7th. This is her first time to compete at Rosses Point and Shiela says that "I have never enjoyed any sport as much as Triathlon as there is such variety with the training and I find that everyone involved in the triathlon club are very willing to give advice and help and motivate newcomers to join in. As a Sligo person, competing at Rosses Point is extra special for me."

Saoirse O Donoghue

Saoirse, originally from Dublin but is living in Sligo for many years now. Saoirse recently placed 4th at Mullagmore Triathlon and club hopes are riding high on her for a successful positioning at Rosses Point.

Laura Spellman

Laura is a newcomer to the sport and this is her first time to participate at Rosses Point. A keen sportswoman, it's anticipated that Laura should place well in the event.

Fiona Melvin

This is Fiona's first time to compete in a triathlon and she is nervous about it. Over the past few months she has overcome her fear of the sea..

Eamonn McAndrew

This is only Eamonn's second year to compete in the sport. Last year he finished in the top 10 and this year it's anticipated that he should finish in the top 5. He came 2nd in the recent Ballina Salmon Leap Triathlon and his current form is blistering to say the least!..

Colm Casey

Colm has been participating for many years in the sport and he always finishes very strongly in every event. Colm is one of the main club coaches and competing at Rosses Point surrounded by local support is one of the highlights of his sporting year.

Greg Kelly

A newcomer to the sport, in just one year Greg has progressed from the try a tri to competing in open events.

Daithi Feehily

Daithi is also a relative newcomers to the sport. This will be first outing at Rosses Point.

Dermot Cunningham

A well known face at club events, Dermot will be swapping marshall duty for racing kit this time round. His season has been hampered by injury; something that has kept him from open racing so far. A newcomer to open water swimming, Dermots form has steadily improved over the last year and he is looking forward to getting an open race under his belt.

Jason McMorrow

Long term club member and seasoned triathlete, Cartron man Jason always likes competing on home ground. Jason will be sure to have full support from his wife Noelle, his three children and extended family on the day.
